What You Need to Know About VEA-Retired Elections

This year the voting procedure for VEA-Retired officers, council members, and delegates to the VEA and NEA Representative Assemblies will be different.  We will be voting by “e-ballot” or electronically.  Before you panic, it really is easy, secure, and fast.  A computer that has internet capability and your VEA/NEA ID number are all you need.  Any computer will do (your own, public library, school, neighbor, relative, etc.).  Your ID number can be found on your membership card, any VEA or NEA publication (VEA Journal, VEA News, etc.).  It is found on the address label and is a number that starts with three zeroes plus seven other digits (0001234567).  If you don’t have a computer, or access to one, you can request a paper ballot, and VEA will mail it to you in time to vote.
Included in these resources is a timeline for self-nominations to run for an office or for the representative assemblies, where to get them, when to return petitions, when to vote, and a step-by-step guide on how to vote.  Keep it as a reference for deadlines and instructions.  The dates for electing delegates to the VEA/NEA representative assemblies are different from the past and for those interested, it is important to check these deadlines.  The dates to elect officers and council members is the same as the VEA elections for officers.  That’s right, two different dates to watch out for this year!
We will be electing the VEA-R president, (who also sits on the VEA Board of Directors), the VEA-R at-large seat on the VEA Board of Directors, VEA-R vice president, all even numbered VEA-R council seats (congressional districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) which are two-year terms, and two odd numbered seats (congressional districts 3 and 9) which will be one-year terms.  We also will be voting for the VEA president and VEA vice president.  Results for both elections will be posted here on the VEA website.
How exactly do you vote on an “e-ballot”?  It’s very easy. The directions are here and on your timeline sheets.

   • Go to your internet provider and type in -  www.veanea.org
   • On the VEA/NEA homepage look at the column on the right hand side and click on the Election Central icon
   • Read the candidates bios and scan to the bottom of the page and click on “vote now”
   • Sign in using your first initial, space, and last name
   • Type in your VEA/NEA ID number from your card or publication
   • Vote for your candidate (s)
   • Review your ballot, and if correct click, on the “vote now or submit” button
   • Close out your program and you’re done (click on the red x at the top right corner).

Remember to check the dates for requesting a paper ballot, returning forms and ballots, and voting.  They are important!
