NEA directors are apportioned among the states based on the number of members.  Virginia is entitled to three. They are elected to three-year terms in staggered years, re-electable once. Their election is by statewide ballot of all members.

NEA directors help set NEA policies. They are available to speak to local associations and to answer members' questions on NEA stands and issues.
