VEA Members’ Writing Published Nationally

The following Association members, who wrote articles that were published in the Virginia Journal of Education, have had those articles reprinted in 2015 issues of Ed Digest, a national publication:

• Heather Deputy of the Stafford Education Association, “We’re Letting Them Bring What?”

 Edgardo “Gary” Castro of the Northampton County Education Association, “Helping English Language Learners Succeed in School”

• David Webb of the Bedford County Education Association, “Getting Along with Teenagers”

• Michael J. Romick, formerly of the Albemarle Education Association (now teaching in another state), “Totally Tuned In.”

Carol Bauer, one of VEA’s representatives on the NEA Board of Directors and a member of the York Education Association, wrote an article entitled, “Teaching and Learning Begin with Books,” which was published in the Summer 2015 issue of NEA Today.

Carroll County Education Association members Steve Mason and Matthew Tompkins, of the Carroll County Alternative Education Center, were recognized as Outstanding Specialists with the Jobs for Virginia Graduates (JVG) program.

Susan McNamara, a member of the Prince William Education Association, coached her Woodbridge Senior High School students to first place in the Governor’s Challenge in Economics and Personal Finance. Her students won the personal finance division.

VEA-Retired member Marjorie M. Clark, a former librarian in the Chesterfield County Public Schools, has been appointed to the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy by Gov. McAuliffe.

The following VEA members have received classroom grants from the NEA Foundation: Karen Ciotta and Deborah McEaddy, of the Newport News Education Association; Stefanie Root of the Stafford Education Association; and Dr. Leslie Chekin and Nicholas Liacopoulos, of the Fairfax Education Association.
