Parks Scholarship Reaches Out to Future Educators
In a long and storied career in education and with the VEA, Beblon Parks helped thousands of students and educators. Now, in her retirement, she continues to influence the future through the Beblon G. Parks Scholarship Fund.
Each year, the Parks Fund will award $500 to a deserving high school senior who’s planning a career in education. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0, been accepted to a college or university, write an essay, and submit two letters of recommendation.
The scholarship has been established by VEA to honor Parks, who served as the Director of the Association’s Office of Field Support, Organizing and Minority Engagement, as well as VEA’s UniServ Manager. She was also a UniServ Director in the Tidewater area, a former president of the Hampton Education Association, and a classroom and resource teacher.
Deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 15. For more information, contact Naila Holmes at NHolmes@veanea.org.
