VEA to Hold Underrepresented Male Educators Symposium


VEA is proud to announce the Underrepresented Male Educators (UME) Symposium, to be held Saturday, February 17, 2018, on the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg.

The target audience for this day-long gathering includes, but is not limited to high school, undergraduate and graduate students, teacher educators, K-12 and postsecondary administrators, retired educators, human resource personnel, community organizations and policymakers. Participants will engage in a variety of discussions on topics related to recruitment and retention of a diverse teacher workforce, particularly males of color.

Symposium highlights include Friday night welcome event, Virginia State University campus tour, Saturday meet and greet breakfast, Saturday Legacy Luncheon, keynote address, workshops on a variety of topics, including mentoring, career paths, sexual harassment, academic support programs, financial planning, and more.

There will be vendors, exhibitors, and special performances. Special guests include award-winning male educators, and elected officials.

Registration is open through February 5, 2018 or until the symposium fills.
