Chesapeake EA Member Settles Wins NEA Grant


Chesapeake Education Association member Karen Settles, of Oscar Smith Middle School, earned a $2,000 Learning & Leadership Grant from the NEA Foundation. The funds enabled Settles to attend the 2010 READ 180 National Summer Institute in Nashville, TN.

Betty Honaker, a member of the Tazewell Education Association and a teacher at Cedar Bluff Elementary School, was selected as the county’s 2009-10 Teacher of the Year.

Hampton Education Association member Gwyndolyn Lee-Lomax, a second grade teacher at Francis Mallory Elementary School, was a first place winner in the national “I Make a Difference” Teacher of the Year contest, held by Positive Promotions, a school supply company. The award came with $500 and a crystal trophy.
