Biography of Kitty Boitnott

Kitty Boitnott is an elementary school library information specialist with 33 years of classroom experience, most recently at Chamberlayne Elementary School in Henrico County. Since August 1, 2008, she has served as the president of the 60,000-member Virginia Education Association, the largest and oldest professional organization serving public schools and public school educators in the Commonwealth.

Boitnott came to Henrico County in 2002. Prior to that she was a library information specialist and English teacher in the Roanoke County and Franklin County public schools.

In 2003, she earned national certification in early childhood through young adult/library media from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. In addition, she has earned her bachelor’s degree from Longwood University, her M.A.L.S. from Hollins College, her Ed.S. from the University of Virginia, and her Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Before her election as VEA president, Boitnott served the Association in a number of capacities. She is a former president and secretary of the Roanoke County Education Association. At the state level, she has served as a member of the VEA Board of Directors, elections committee, resolutions committee, political action committee, and the instruction and professional development committee. In addition, she has been called upon to act as a speaker and trainer in several VEA workshops and seminars, including training for educators seeking national certification and for young teachers new to the profession.
