VEA Members Head for NEA Annual Meeting
About 250 educators and Association members from Virginia will join with nearly 10,000 of their colleagues from around the nation in San Diego this week for the 147th annual meeting of the National Education Association.
The Representative Assembly is the 3.2 million- member NEA’s highest decision-making body, and is also the world’s largest democratic deliberative body.
The VEA delegation will participate in discussion, debate and voting on critical issues facing public education, and will help set Association policy for the coming year.
Among the event’s other highlights are a town-hall meeting with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, the presentation of NEA’s America’s Greatest Education Governor Award, and an address from the U.S. Teacher of the Year, Anthony Mullen of Connecticut.
The Representative Assembly and related activities run until July 6. Check the VEA website for updates and photos.
