VA Board of Education Hosts Public Hearings

This summer, the Board of Education will host public hearings at locations throughout the state. We encourage VEA members, family and friends to attend these meetings and let the Board know what you think about the plan for ESSA implementation across Virginia and the Virginia High School Redesign Plan called Profile of a Virginia Graduate.

Wednesday, August 23 – Mecklenburg County

Public comment will be accepted at each of the meetings listed above. While the Board welcomes all comments from the public, they are specifically looking for feedback on the Board’s work related to the following:

•      The Standards of Accreditation (SOA) including changes to High School Graduation Requirements and changes to how schools will be accredited in the future
>     Profile of a Graduate – proposed changes to Virginia’s graduation requirements:  BOE Proposed Revisions to Parts I-VII of the SOA
>     Draft of the BOE proposed amendments to the SOA (School Accreditation Reforms are included in Part VIII)
•     The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) State Plan
>    Virginia’s Transition to ESSA 
•     Identifying conditions and needs of public education, for updating the Board’s Comprehensive Plan and Annual Report to the Governor and General Assembly
>    BOE current Comprehensive Plan
