Virginia Education Association President Carol Bauer today released this statement on yesterday’s school shooting:

“What happened at Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon yesterday is simply, indescribably horrific. When will we bring an end to such senseless violence? When will we be able to stop issuing statements condemning such tragic events and mourning inconceivable losses? Our schools simply must return to being what they were created to be: safe havens of learning and growth. All our children deserve to be able to learn in safety, all parents deserve to feel safe sending their children to school; and all educators deserve a safe workplace. Let’s never, ever stop fighting to make this happen.”
