Today, the Virginia Education Association launched a new digital ad calling on legislators to support fairer taxes and lower costs for families in Virginia.
The ad features Andrea, a Hampton Roads second-grade teacher who wants to see investment in schools and wants housing to be more affordable so that she can live where she teaches.
“Virginia lets billionaires pay the same tax rate as teachers like me, and gives out-of-state corporations countless loopholes to avoid paying theirs,” Andrea says in the ad. “It’s time to fix the tax code and make life more affordable — by cutting taxes for working families, lowering the cost of childcare, and strengthening our schools.”
The ad is part of a five-figure digital buy targeted across Virginia with a focus on Richmond and Hampton Roads. It comes as legislators on money committees plan to roll out their budget proposals on Sunday.
“Virginia legislators have an opportunity this year to pass a budget that fixes Virginia’s unfair tax code and lowers the burden on working families,” said Carol Bauer, President of the VEA. “It’s wrong that teachers pay the same tax rate as multi-millionaires. We can make life more affordable and invest in our schools and communities with a fairer tax plan that works for working people.”
