Summit on Teachers of Color

Summit on Teachers of Color - VEA Website

The target audience for this summit is local VEA affiliates, K-12 teachers, education support professionals, and administrators, college and university students, higher education faculty, staff and administrators, human resource personnel, local school boards, community organizations, state legislators, and Virginia Department of Education staff.

The goal of the summit is to inform policy and promote best practices and greater diversity in hiring methods in K-12 education throughout the Commonwealth. VEA is committed to addressing three additional barriers that affect minorities in the workforce: specifically, climate and working conditions, retaining teachers of color, diversifying the pipeline through educator preparatory programs, standing up for social justice for people of color, culturally relevant practices, cultivation of community, and compensation.
